Scale of Ruin

about

In the wake of the king's death, the Elabrynth filled with fire and blood. The people now had no rulers to give them order, yet they also felt that they could no longer be safe and no one could assure them of that. They complained that the incident showed the fallibility of the Elabrynth and that the old songs were wrong, that the gods surely challenged man and man lost severely. The royals now lay soaked in blood while people began to mercilessly slaughter and raid each other in the process. Women and children were raped and devoured, some took their bones to craft makeshift weapons in which to deal with the harsh lands beyond the structure. Bread began to sale as the water began to toxify with the amount of fecal matter that was being flushed out from the sewers. Even the order failed to escape, as they were quickly discovered and massacred in their robes before they had even had time to declare their presence as the new rulers. Yet these people desired not rule, they desired change and the Elabrynth could no longer give it to them. So they smelt it down like a worn sword, eager to move to a new lands far beyond. Questing warriors and adventurers even came back to the realization of the journeys as they left the city to smolder in the fire and ash. For this was all illusion after all; there was no great utopia behind these walls. The great statues of those who were bowed to and worshiped now lie in hunks of rubble as the screams of those encased entities leap forth from its walls, proclaiming freedom from their torment. The blood and sacrifice has now been repaid in full as long forgotten gods relish in a feast with the new gods and the gods to soon be, for time is a wheel that shall spin for many ages to come and for many ages after and after... the Elabrynth will eventually be nothing but a mere memory in the minds of men and the creatures to come after, surely becoming a blank slate that never may have existed in the first place.

With my pen, I write these last few notes on the history of the Elabrynth, yet my story shall also crumble and wither to dust with time. For nothing truly lasts forever, as time ever marches on without delay.

lyrics

The gleaming city stands no more
It has been leveled from the chaos and war
The death of the monarchy brought forth anarchy
And the peasants revolted amongst themselves

See it's once great towers, crumbled to dust
Stale bread and foul water that will fester for ages
Yet the capital will soon be forgotten
As a new empire emerges in the west
The flesh will rot from the bones
Leaving the fetid stench of decay

It was once a place of prosperity
Yet the magi planned for its collapse
They wanted to be twelve new kings
Though their plans were silenced
By an uproar of violence

Their marble gods fell to their knees
Heads tumbling down and crumbling to pieces
Their temples were torched and their commerce destroyed
Their currency left in a smoldering heap
And I must ask myself
Is this the scale of ruin?
The city now lies in rubble
Is this the scale of ruin?
There is no refuge
In this scale of ruin

One might ask themselves
Were the magi truly successful after all?
Though looking at the debris that surrounds me
The answer seems all too clear
For these are the winds of decay
Blowing upon me

The gleaming city stands no more
See it's once great towers, crumbled to dust
The gleaming city stands no more
Stale bread and foul water that will fester for ages
The gleaming city stands no more
It has been leveled from the chaos and war

The gods fell silently to their knees
As they welcomed the scale of ruin
